What you think about your future in Austin? How long you think you can stay in Austin before moving to Bay area or Seattle? Specially if you want to stay in technical track. The more senior or good you become, the more responsibility you need to take, more influencial you need to be... Do you think you can grow in Austin?
I was planning to relocate to Austin. Are you saying not to ?
Which level you are at? Your end goal may not same as mine
Amazon has 300k TC in Austin?! What level?
TC is same for Austin & Seattle
Uhh, yeah. Because not all good tech companies are based in SF or Seattle.
Looks like you have no idea what you are talking about! Is there any company in Austin or entire Texas who pays more than $300k TC for IC unless they are FAANG?
Yes. There are plenty who can pay that much for very senior ICs. Even non-tech companies can get in that range. You need to broaden your horizons.
But that’s insanely high for Austin...
"high" is relative you know :)
This pay is very rare in Austin and I would never move out. you've hit the jackpot: faang salary, no state income tax, nice houses for 500k, low cost of everything, your purchasing power is like that of a millionaire in SF.
Do you really get 300k in Austin?
I'm surprised why you guys are thinking that it's not possible? Any L6 or above make that specially if someone join early when stock price was < $500... I'm sure Austin has good amount of L6 or L7? Same goes for other FAANG.... To OP: You can stay at L6 or L7 as long as you want.. or you want to switch?
At Amazon my salary has only been 160k for the last 9 years. But my TC has been 600-1m every year from adding in RSU’s vesting. You can’t ignore those RSU’s.
That was I was trying to say... OP clearly mentioned TC... Btw, very impressive! Which lever you are at?
I'll just retire in 10-15 years. Take a teaching job or work a nonprofit if I get restless. I avoided the coasts to avoid the rat race and lucked into a FAANG TC that'll let me retire early. If you want to chase even more money and status, you need to leave Austin.
Isn't this super high for Austin?
