Does anyone work at ford model e division? They have hired a lot of tech execs and wondering about culture, pay, etc. TC 435k
I doubt they’ll beat 435k tbh
Avoid it. Low pay, low performers, toxic culture.
Yep before COVID they were offering like $45 per hour base pay for ML expert and $90,000 for SWE and they were expected to be in the office 4-5 days a week. I also heard the workplace culture is also kind of toxic with lots of bureaucracy and being expected to pick up slack from others who were laid off or left on their own.
It’s Ford - much like other OEMs it is a dinosaur pretending to be new all over again. Coming from Google, you’re obviously trolling
Good work life balance. Culture is slow, and confused management. Your pay is good, once you are in make sure go out after 4 years. They won't increase pay once you are in.
Wlb is kind of fading away in many orgs
Model E is now being led by Doug Field (Ex-Tesla Model S chief and Ex-Apple project Titan lead) who's been very instrumental in changing the way we work, being compensated and prioritize. Quite similar to silicon valley. Some S serious amount of old executives have been let go to pave way for this new dynamic. Although yes there's still a long way to go, I'd say since the past year, there has been some massive changes and steps taken inside despite what others perceive from outside. Yes Ford still cannot match the TC from the silicon valley but the nature of work and the prospect of being involved in the change while once in a lifetime industrial shift is happening is quite exciting and rewarding.
What’s their remote work policy?
Well said. Ford imo is heading the right direction much faster. Ford will come nowhere near $400k+ TC, but cost of living in Detroit area is stupidly cheap in comparison. Current remote policy basically "Depends on your project, but fully remote is fine"
Avoid big3. Low pay, poor wlb, layoffs are annual, surrounded by low performer and many non-smart people. Remote work will be faded out soon.
Anybody want to give insight into what Manager and Director level pay at Ford is?
First, they are not managers they are people leaders. Second, idk know about new hires, but I was making 30k more than my manager.
Engineering managers make around 160-200k base. Directors make 300k base. All the engineering and technical work is done by the lower level engineers who make 80-100k. The managers and directors merely take credit.
Wow that's actually much higher than I was expecting, Managers can make up to 200k. Base? Directors 300k base? I was more expecting Managers around 150k base and directors around 200k.
Competitive-ish on base, basically zero equity until ll3 (think <$20k/year ll5 and ~$50k/year ll4)
