Hi everyone, I recently received an offer from Ford for an HTHD engineering role at the Dearborn campus. Base salary is 90K in GSR5. Sign on bonus is 9K and yearly AICP bonus is 4K. My current salary at Aptiv 78K with a yearly salary increase of 6%. Current experience is 2 yrs of internship + 1 year of professional experience around various tier 1 suppliers. Also currently enrolled in Masters program for EE if that makes any difference. I just wanted some feedback to see if there is any feasible improvement that can be made to my offer. If anyone is able to share any info about merit base salary increases too that'd be great.
It’s a good TC for 1 yr FT experience in MI. You’re def on the higher side for GSR5.
Thanks, yeah I'm worried about my GSR being a potential bottleneck for future raises.
I got hired in as 5 and got 6 within 2 years. I know some who made it to 7 within 3 years. The real issue is 8 is kind of the glass ceiling. You can make it past but it's hard.
For the Midwest, it’s a great junior level offer.
That's a great offer for Ford. HTHD definitely pays more and without it you'd be looking at around $75000 to start. I doubt you'd even get a signing bonus too. The AICP seems to be the same as a regular GSR5 and that normally changes when you advance to GSR6 and so on.
Also, not entirely sure what HTHD gives for yearly increases but without it you should expect 2-3% increase year to year.
Thank you for the feedback and info! Yeah then I'm pretty satisfied. It's no FANNG but what can you do. I was able to negotiate the higher bonus because of prior experience with automotive suppliers. But those suppliers are def paying 🥜 and/or using contractors to sneak out of paying benefits.
What is hthd?
High Tech High Demand. Ford jargon for in-demand roles specifically in their AI/EV space.
Ok that explains the high Tc vs yoe
Jesus Christ 90k at gsr5. Need to get me some of that HTHD hot sauce. That's pretty good for Ford and Midwest. It's not the stars but def nothing to sneeze at.
Yeah, can't expect to get a TC: bajillion dollars right out of university, but I'm counting my blessings. From my interview experience I had multiple teams interview and want me on to join their team specifically. They seem to be pretty serious about hiring engineering ability for their future plans.
