High performers, how often do you have slack off days?
Hi All. Please help me with my dilemma. I'm currently working at Tier1 supplier for the last 8 years and making per year. I received an offer from Ford (level 8) with 5 sign on bonus, $9k yearly bonus, and 3 weeks vacation. I’m wondering is it it worth taking the risk given the salary is same and I hear layoffs at ford is very common.#auto @ford
At Ford, lay offs are very rare compared to any other company. Its an amazing employee focused company. The last thing they will do is a lay off. So if lay off is your concern, i would say don’t worry about it. Recently ford poached sone really good leaders and are on great track. You have gotten a higher end sg8 offer if it’s for Dearborn. For most teams WLB is amazing at Ford.
Thank you for your reply! Yes it’s at Dearborn.
The only good thing about Ford is wlb but if it is already good for you then don't switch. If you are lucky you will end up in a good department. But the problem with Ford is there is a lot of bad departments. The management here always want to take full credit for your work. They always give work and assign important tasks based on favoritism or race. Bad actors here never get fired and get promoted. I've heard of some managers that got a lot of complaints through many years and Ford only sent them to training then promoted them. The list goes on and on.
The TC package is pretty good as compared to your YOE. If you’re worried about layoffs, its mostly contractors first….WLB would be good but depending on your role, you may get dumped more work than expected. Ford is a great work culture as they invest in you but also is very dependent on the team you’re in
Recently accepted offer. I’m on H1B, but offer is 130k bonus, 5k sign on, relocation and 9k annual bonus. I have 6YOE though, with a Masters degree. Recruiter said that TC is calculated based on various parameters in a Ford proprietary tool 😀. GSR 8
May I know whats your expertise and GSR/LL level?
Full stack developer, cloud delivery consultant in the past. I make a lot more where I work (NYC), almost double, but there’s burnout 😀. Moving here mainly because I have a Canadian PR, so that I can commute daily if needed.
Nice offer. Our bonuses have been garbage the last few years so expect maybe 50-70% of that not the full bonus. Otherwise it's a nice relaxed place to work and the people are very nice. It can make you go insane if you care about being on the cutting edge of new tech because.... You basically never are. Great place to take it slow and pretty stable if you're good at your job and direct hire. Most layoffs have to do with the company pivoting to electrification and maybe even tech related roles.
Do you mean 50% taxes?
Bonus, like in any other company, are based on corporate, division and individual performance. If the company doesn't do well, don't expect to get that part of the bonus. You have full control on your part, of course.
No salary increase every year ? Like 3%
Yes, but don't expect 3%. Well, maybe this year changes, i don't know.
Where’s your job location gonna be?.
Dearborn
Ford is a good company. Layoffs were in past. If you are in tech, you are good. No need to worry. Ford's wlb os awesome.
Also, you can ask for more signon. I got 15k at gsr8.
May I know, what’s your base and YOE?
Current $140k - is it including bonus? How is wlb? What was the motivation to switch?
Excluding bonus. Wlb is good Motivation for me is to learn new stuff
You’ll probably only learn politics/delegation at Ford. I’ve never seen anyone learn new stuff at Ford - worked there for 1.5 years.
