What do you think is wrong with a kid who got rejected by 9 colleges?
Looking for constructive comments. Offer: Ford GDIA Base: 120k Annual Bonus: 11k Level:GSR7 with 12 months to GSR8 Current TC: $112k + 8k RSU YOE: 5 Paired programming is the biggest uncertainty to me. Not sure the pay boost will make up for being paired all day, every day. Ford also apparently tops out around $140k for GSR8? But pension worth it? #software #swe
Not a big enough bump in my opinion. But if the work sounds more interesting and you're not interested in your current job then go for it. Also do not trust recruiters when they promise you can get X promotion in Y months. Consider what you have now.
There is no pension at ford.. there used to be for people who were hired before 2004 or some thing like that..we have good 401k contributions about 7 to 8 percent..there is a match and retirement contribution that adds up to 7
It's tough to compare Ford offers to other companies because of previously mentioned high 401k contributions, stupid amount of vacation time/ holidays, and pretty terrible health insurance. I like pair programming, but it definitely doesn't go super well in every team. I would see if you could chat with an engineer on the team you will be joining first. Some engineers at Ford hate pairing and will just sit there and do nothing while you do everything, or they will hog the keyboard and say all your ideas are dumb. If your coworkers are all good at pairing and are nice people, it can be a good experience
Don't trust the promotion thing. That 12 month just means "you will be eligible". Similar promise went around for h1b people that they will do GC in a year. It has been 5 years and I haven't heard anyone getting the process started.
Also, unless you want to settle in MI, it's not worth your time unless you are doing something else outside of work, i.e. grad school, side business, etc. Great place to study. I show up at work around 11am and leave at 4pm.
You can be full remote at Ford now, but it's up to your boss to allow it, and it will probably hurt you if you try to get into LL6. And yeah don't fall for the promotion thing. I have had so many people fall for it. I have seen people go GS5-6-7-8 in a matter of 4-5 years but it really just depends how good you are, and how much your boss likes you and is willing to go to bat for you
Have you tried it? This is a dream
Tried what?
