You just need to be understandable. There are many successful people with some accent and unsuccessful native speakers. If your accent is very strong, hard to understand, comes off as funny, then yes, you need to fix it.

I have noticed that Asians who learnt the American accent had more opportunities than their comparables who spoke with their native accent.
When I have an accent and make mistakes while speaking - I have an excuse - I am a foreigner and it's not my first language. People understand that. If I did have an accent and made mistakes I would sound like an uneducated moron. I want to keep my accent.
