Free lunch ban

Jul 24, 2018 71 Comments

SF is potentially going to ban the tech companies from providing free lunch to the employees in order to help local restaurants and encourage tech workers to engage in the societies. Do you support the free lunch ban?

What if the companies providing lunch card to the local restaurants instead on-site cafeteria? Not only do employees still get free lunch but it helps local communities.

Sounds super wasteful and subsidies almost always lead to higher prices

Tens of thousands of employees from many tech companies in a densely populated area going out for lunch at the same time. What could go wrong?
Traffic, accidents, lost work hours, people left starving in the office because they have to stay for urgent work. Dumb

I think it will only work for the companies located in downtown where restaurants are surrounding office buildings. It surely will create chaos for companies like MS

SF should just ban everything and become Singapore

Then it has no chance of becoming Singapore.

SF could use a law where there has to be restroom accessible to the public in every building

  • How about these restaurant owners, presumably terrible businesspeople, do their research and don’t open a business in an area that has no demand for them?

    • Market economy is a concept lost on many. It’s all good until they make money. Once they stop making money, they demand regulation.

This seems pointless and would cause cafeteria workers to lose their jobs, which are likely better (in benefits and pay) than the ones they could get working at those local restaurants.

Why help local restaurants when they have tourists as customers?
    Jul 24, 2018 2
    • Microsoft oh snap
Because tourists are avoiding the sh*t and needles infestation whereas the people who live/work there have no choice.

The pretext here is that techies do not engage in the societies. A classic us vs them rhetoric. Keep voting left you’ll reap what you sow pasty nerds.

Given the choice of two evils I prefer the orange buffoon since his policies harm everyone equally while the left targets me in person.
I prefer if we got rid of both evil parties but I guess you are not a party to this initiative.

Personally if free lunch is banned I’d pack my own. I’m not paying $15-$20 a day for a San Francisco lunch. Fuck that.

With that sf mandate fee restaurants are throwing on top of the tax? Like, no. Lunchables if I gotta.
