Thinking of quitting job and trying to go the freelance/consulting route. Currently make $95k/yr pre-tax. Think I can beat this in the DC area without killing myself with work? I’ve done some small freelance jobs in the past, but this time I’d like to get bigger clients and scale. I’m worried there won’t be enough clients in this area willing to spend $. On the other hand, the DMV isn’t saturated with designers like other geographies, so might be able to carve a niche? Thoughts?
It depends on what you will be doing as a consultant. Development/analyst/PM/etc. i have been doing freelance consulting in ERP area for several years. It will be easier if you setup a LLC/inc for you because sometime client/midvendors ask for insirance but thats not the only reason, ots easier to get paid on 1099

You’re underpaid. And yes, at least $150/hr for consulting work.
