A college fresher here will be graduating with a dual MS degree in Mathematics (5 years course) in May. Being from a not-so-good college, I had no big dreams of ever making big in tech. Always thought it was for the 'elites', all the glamour, the moons and stars not meant for me. I was just interested in DSA and problem-solving and eventually became good at it. Last year I saw a bunch of people way worse than me getting dream compensations at FAANG and other big techs, thought maybe I could do the same, obviously, I was better at problem solving and fundamentals and interviewing than them. Didn't have any college support, so just applied to a bunch of low-paying internships with a fake resume as no one wanted to hire someone without a CS degree. Landed my first tech internship and started contributing and eventually, my presence was also noticed and I was able to make a decent-looking resume, so got another internship opportunity at a mid-sized fintech startup. Started working for them and continued DSA. Got interview opportunities at big companies as well. Amazon, Stripe, etc. 2 of my offers have been revoked, 2 recruiters have been laid off during my interview loop, have applied to tons of jobs but no response. Have lost all hope and will probably graduate jobless just like I had imagined. Will go back to my parent's house and spend the rest of my life there like a loser. Stats: Amazon EMEA: (Oct'22) Cleared all 3 tech interviews, received the next steps mail then layoff started, the recruiter got laid off. Haven't heard back since. Stripe (Oct'22): Offered a position then revoked. JP Morgan APAC (Nov'22): Cleared OA, interview, and HR interview. Haven't heard back since. Microsoft (Jul'22): Cleared OA. Ghosted since Fintech startup where I was interning: My whole team got descaled due to some compliance issue put on our payments flow and my full-time offer got revoked. Have applied to almost all the companies you can think of, with employee referrals, reaching out to recruiters, engineering managers, career websites, or anything else you can think of. About Me -9 months of tech internship experience in Django and Scala. -52 tickets closed in the last internship. 4000+ LOC in production -DSA: 1000+ questions and Expert on CF. 1900 on LC -Gold medalist of my college. (9.2/10.0 GPA) Have lost the drive and confidence to practice anymore and have lost all hope. It wasn't, meant for me anyways... PS: Mental health is not very good due to career anxiety. Partner (F) got placed last year in a dream company and cheated on me with a colleague. (1st Sep 2022, will never forget this date) Just wanted to share my story. Cheers! #tech #recession #layoffs23 #career #freshers #layoffs #software #newgrad #hope #faang #techcareer
