I've been a Product Manager for about 3.5 years now and was previously a software engineer for about 3 years. Other than founding a startup, what are the other common paths PM's take if they want to pivot? I'm tired of the politics/drama and I don't think taking a break will bring back that PM spark I once had. Don't want to go back to a swe position. Currently at a startup. #productmanager
Consulting: supporting clients in Building strategic plans using internal/external analysis, pivot strategy based on STP, stage of products/services OR Program Management
You do not get away from politics and drama in program management
Consulting. You will inevitably need to sell your clients on new services. To me. That still requires politics and drama. As much as PM
move from target to faang lol
Is there no political BS with Product roles at FAANG?
Just change companies. Product Management across companies can be very different. If you join an early stage startup, there will be less politics/drama and more focus on actual output.
Why not s/w engineering op ?
I found that I love coding, but only for my own personal projects. I'd probably consider it again, but would need to practice again. Been over 3 years since I've touched code
Program Management or Data Scientist/Analyst if you have the interest
Venture Capital if you have the Ivy League/Top 5 engineering school pedigree. If not long shot
Dropped out of uni long ago
How’d you become swe?
Be a PM consultant (freelance type gigs?)
Was thinking about that!
Is that a thing for PMs? I'd love to know more if you have any leads
Manager of a Product Management team/Software development team, Program Management, or switch companies as Product Management in one company can be completely different in another.
If he hates politics, becoming a manager of PM would only make it worse
Is program management a sought after role? Sorry for my ignorance but I come from consulting and program management wasn't something folks preferred there. Is it a good career choice?
DM me please.
Data Analyst?
That would yield a significant pay decrease, no?
Same for politics and drama, Pay decrease
