Been doing front end work for 3 years now. I’m thinking of switching companies and role. I like the role but not sure how much more I can grow in it Is front end a dead end career? What would be the difference between a front end vs SWE at Facebook? Who gets paid more over time? TC: 120
Every 10 years front end needs massive facelift....
I would say go after Facebook, Google, etc., for a FE position before Amazon. Amazon is starting to interview FE devs a LOT, but I think there's a higher chance to get on a team with multiple FE devs in other places == better opportunity to grow. And no, it is not a dead end career.
Thank you, glad to hear to that. So being a SWE is no better, just different, from FE?
I used to do a lot of Front end work but there’re particular two things I really don’t like about front end: 1. It changes too fast and most of time it’s not fundamental changes but just a different opinion win out. 2. It’s super easy to learn, which is good thing for a new developer, but bad thing for seniors because those young folks can learn much faster than you as they don’t have kids. The lower entry bar also result in lots of developers who don’t really know CS fundamentals.
It’s not easier to learn. Well maybe if you only know React and Bootstrap. Yea, you can call that easy.
Which front end role are you referring to? https://css-tricks.com/the-great-divide/
Both, but if I had to pick then the JS one
Your skill set would overlap with full stack people. You’ll always be the “muscle” on the team and not the “brain”.
