Data Science, Inference role. Passed takehome challenge, cleared onsite (2x longer than FB’s onsites and requires a 45-min presentation), and sat for 2 followup interviews which I thought went ok. Then I got this email 6 days later, even though the recruiter said to expect a decision in 3 days. They really had to put me through the whole gauntlet to know I didn’t have the right experience, which they could have gathered from my resume?
Oh and needless to say the takehome challenge was described by the recruiter as taking 3-4 hours, described in the challenge instructions as 5-8 hours, and actually took about 20 hours.
Had the same experience with their take home
Yeah, same, their takehome is ridiculous.
You interviewed , interviewers submitted their feedback. May had a group discussion on you and other candidates and they didn’t see you as a right fit (maybe liked you but liked someone more ), you got a rejection email. Which part is bugging you
If I got this email after the onsite, it would have been understandable. I am bugged by the fact I waited 2 weeks after the onsite for followup interviews, then another week for a no hire decision, which was a surprise given that I cleared the onsite.
Yes but this might be a specific hire and not a general hire . If you are competing with other candidates , they may have brought other candidates to next rounds as well. If other candidate performed better then they should get a chance. Also, maybe you didn’t pass the second round of interviews. You said you got email after a week of 2nd round of interviews. So sounds like you failed that round . Interviewers submitted feedback. Had discussing with hiring manager . And then you got the email.
Sorry to hear and how frustrating! Did you speak with the recruiter? I’d want to understand exactly when what and who went south. I know it’s not ideal but at least the silver lining in all those useless rounds is that they gave you practice for the future. It’s a small hiccup in the grand scheme of things!
I replied to the recruiter to thank her for keeping me updated and for her efforts in shepherding me through the recruitment process. A long process for me is long for her too, I imagine. I did not ask for more feedback and personally am not curious to know more. I’m fortunate to stay at FB and have a lot more gratitude for the much simpler recruitment process here.
Interesting. Why were you looking to leave?
Airbnb's interview process is widely known as a joke at this point
I got the exact same email from Airbnb. The recruiting process is a joke. I did well in all rounds and got this. I asked the recruiter and she said the real reason as my technical scores were not high enough to proceed. The interviewer was not experienced enough to conduct a good design round.
Was about to say - probably just a precanned response. Thanks for confirming.
Are you DS at FB?
Yes
As pointed above it’s standard reply sugar coating fact that you did not do well on interviews. If you want actual feedback, call recruiter on the phone, be polite, respectful and ask for more details. Could chance recruiter share more. Do not try to fight or argue with recruiter as decision is final. 6 days is fast turn around. 3 data is unreasonably short.
It would be unreasonably short if I expected it from them myself, but they told me the number of days first.
The email is just a generic response. I applied for the same exact track and got the same exact rejection email. The recruiter told me more info so just ask her.
What was the info in your case?
Lack of relevant product experience with the specific role/team I was interviewing for. Basically, I bombed the case study interview.
This is exactly why companies don't usually provide feedback after rejecting candidate
Or at least reject me right after onsite. Don’t put me through 2 more interviews. 😡
