I got an offer two months ago and still going through the background check where I fucked it up. I worked as a full time contractor for a company A few years ago. Basically I worked full time onsite there for two years and the whole team was basically outsource contractor except the manager. When going through the background check I put company A as my employer instead of the outsource company. Later they asked me for the clarification. I had to show them that I was really working for company A. It’s really annoying because I can’t really get reference from the company A directly. It’s my first time to have such a strict background check and I got really anxious starting to feel like I’m losing the job already. Funny that my direct manager is ready to onboard me and tell me pick up equipment when I’m mentally prepared to let my offer rescinded
That sounds stressful but I bet it'll work out. The background company has to do their job fully, and the hiring company has to know that you didn't lie about your experience or have some significant undisclosed criminal record that would could cause a regulatory problem for them. You should have been more accurate in the initial submission but once you show that your contract work was at "company A" I think theyll accept that as a minor paperwork mistake.
Thanks man😭
Big company or small? Which industry
Big US company but not magnificent 7. Tech Industry.
It’s a huge lesson for me because I had never run into any issue like that for all my past background check. I’m now trying to ask for my previous manager to see if he can give me a reference letter.
Your legal employer was the outsource contractor. You can look at your employer info on your paystubs. You gave them incorrect info, but why? You can prove who you worked for based on your paystubs and W2s, if asked. I am not sure if you can go back and give them the correct info to verify.
This sounds like a fake experience to me
Hmmmm.... the issue with your thought process is that just because you didn't get caught before makes it ok to continue. It's a common practice to never say you work for X if you're a contractor. Even though I was never a contractor, it's a known practice. That's why if you look at LinkedIn, ppl will say contractor for X. You may be ok but just saying that it is definitely a red flag.
Background check costs ~$30 , no one gives a fck unless there’s a criminal record
This is extremely common. You just did what most contractors do.
Hope it all works out

What happens when most of your team is Indian?
Yup you might have fucked up. That is a material lie. While I completely understand why you might have put it, it's not the truth. You can easily change it to Company A (Contractor) or something
