I remember starting my career a decade ago where if a company extends you an offer, they'll do whatever possible to hire you and meet the expectations. Talent, skills, projects and experience mattered then. Today, there are so many folks out there that these companies do not value talent or experience anymore. Why? Because there are folks who are ready to do the job for less. Why? Because.. Leetcode and bootcamps made them marketable and ready to be hired. And are these leetcoders talented? Oh yea, for sure. They are dedicated and focused just like a dog is during the training process because there's a treat waiting in the end! I wish the industry hired smart people who can think out of the box, are good mentors, have empathy, value spontaneous thinking and not those who can just code and deliver tasks. Stupid industry.
Actually it's kind of the opposite, if you can play the game, companies will go gaga after you. And you are shaming leetcoders but it seems like you didn't have success with that.
You maybe right. I wish the interview process was more about some real world problem instead of asking someone to code a leetcode medium / hard. Even the system design problems are pretty generic which are easily available online. FYI, I have an offer from MS, Facebook and a bunch of startups. Plus Amazon trying to retain me. I am in a negotiation phase and it sucks to see how recruiters talk or even discuss negotiations.. Having success with something wrong doesn't mean it makes it right. A wrong is a wrong.
So you were also able to train like a dog, good job Buddy! Here's your treat!
Cry moar, gramps. Leetcode is the only objective way to compare candidates. Yeah, it sucks but it's better than the alternative.
I think a healthier attitude is to think of Leetcode as "do you even lift bro?" You don't have to do a lot if it's a habit to do some regularly. It can keep your problem solving skills sharp so it's not all bad. As with lifting, it's kinda suboptimal when taken to an extreme. It's also a signal for: - A certain level of IQ in lieu of an actual IQ test. - Lack or limit of attachments other than coding. A single parent would find it much harder to find time for Leetcode practice, for example. Put in a cynical light, it's just a way to discriminate on factors that are illegal to discriminate on, but companies want to anyway.
What's actually happening is there is so much investment money to be had if you are a CEO of a tech company. Tech Companies need engineers. Since there were so few engineers, the free market made it so engineers got paid well. Ultimately however, supply will catch up with demand causing engineers to be paid much less. I imagine in 20 years Engineers will be like plumbers; There are a lot of them, some make a lot, some don't, and some have to deal with feces on a daily basis.
It’s actually the other way around. All of the new people clog the hiring pipeline and make it harder to find genuinely skilled candidates, making TC go up.
Sounds like this person wants to use eye contact and firm handshakes to hire engineers 🙄
Partially yes. Life is a lot more than just money or delivering results. And a personality of a person matters. Personally, I wouldn't even hire a plumber to fix a faucet if the person isn't presentable or have attiquetes :)
Vat abut plumers spelunk skils? Vy onli attiquettes?
Apply to Stripe. Their interview is about getting things done instead of LC.
I have done it. It is so stupid. The interviewer doesn’t even say you should write a unit test. Say lets write some test. Once you waste 10 mins with calling your function and proving your test cases work etc then asks could have done a unit test would you? The question they ask is so basic, it makes you think there is gotta be more. They judge your variable name etc. makes it extremely biased. You dont need to come up with optimal. So if they like your smooth talking skills, bs skills they advance you
Leetcode isn't even important past entry level
No they ask at all levels. I interview for staff they ask it
The questions asked are easier and more common ones at higher levels right? I constantly see senior and staff getting softball questions so they really just need to remember the basics and ace other aspects of the interview process
