Fun commuter car recommendations?

In Seattle and commute to DT Bellevue during peak hours with lots of stop and go. For those outside the area, 20 minutes on a good day each way, and hour isn't unusual. Currently driving a nice SUV, because it can fit three kids in booster seats. I'm debating getting either a newer plugin hybrid BMW X5 for everything, or a small additional car as a toy. Model X is out of my price range. If a second car, probably used, smaller, and fun. Current top choices are Z4 hardtop or Boxster. Being in the PNW, convertibles leak, so leaning towards hard top. Any others in the same class that I should consider?

I had a ton of fun with the Z4 when I had it. I also suffer from a bias liking BMW in general. Their cars are like going out with your dog!

How about a bike? Zero SR/F

I had thought about it, but I don't trust myself on wet roads and am too much of a baby to ride in the rain.

I'm a big fan of bus route 550. And you never have to worry about parking.

I had considered it, but too long with transfers 😕

The sound of an inline 6 engine from BMW is like orchestra to me. I can't say the same if you're considering the Porsche with a boxer 4, which literally sounds like a Subaru WRX 20 min isn't bad at all to drive a manual... Which I do 30+ mins each way I would also add the 2020 Toyota supra to the mix if you can endure an auto trans.

Test drive a Tesla with self driving in a busy freeway. It will change your life. I take 101 every day in a model 3 and I'd quit if I had to actually drive or take the train.
