I was pinged by G recruiters for a TPM role and have an onsite interview scheduled in the near future. Based on the info sent, there will be 5 interviews, with two of them being very technical (coding and system design). I've been mostly a traditional type Program Manager throughout my career and many years since I've done any coding. Most likely, I will flunk the technical interviews, no matter how much reading I do - can't really fake the lack of experience in those areas, especially system design. I was thinking of a couple options, and would appreciate your advice, especially those of you familiar with Google culture and hiring practices: 1. I could just go for it, most likely fail the interview and think of it as a nice memory experiencing Google for one day (on their dime). I don't know if this would hurt in any way if I was to apply at some point later on for another role. 2. Inform the recruiters that "after some further thinking, blah, blah..." I'm not quite as technical, will not go, and ask to consider me for future opportunities that do not require this level of technical expertise. Not sure if the fact they already booked travel would be an issue or not. Thanks for the insight, it is greatly appreciated!!! ** I am currently employed, living in the Northeast, married with kids and the role would require relocation to Mountain View. I would find non-tech PgM roles on the Google careers page and forward those to your recruiter. Schedule a call with him/her and say that you might not be technical enough for this role, but that you have a strong PgM exp and that those non-tech PgM roles might be a better fit. Ask recruiter to forward your profile to those hiring managers / recruiters
whats the salary range of tpm?
Good question, I would assume base salary anywhere from 120 - 180 depending on YOE, etc. Hopefully, those working at G can give us better insight on this.
