Back in the day aol was ubiquitous for internet users. Nowadays you have companies that are supposedly next gen like discord or slack that essentially do the same thing that aol did via chatrooms and aim. These days some of you dont even know what aol is. Its still around but seen as a boomer tool.
AOL was a browser client that was discouraging people from using internet and focused on AOL content. Browsers won the war as people wanted to see more than just what AOL provided.
