Looking for inputs from past conference attendees and employers. Is the Grace Hopper Conference worth going to for those that are pursuing full-time opportunities? Also, it’s is beneficial to only current or graduating students? Or can some one with 1-2 years of experience also attend?
If you are going there for full time opportunity it would be great. Many of my friends went and got their new role offered at conference. Most of the companies offer roles to new graduates but there are some companies that hire experienced people as well.
Shuuuuuuutttt uppppp
Facts hurt feefees? Or was some part of it inaccurate? As others have said, it’s a great way to go to avoid full interview loops and sometimes get job offers right on the spot, well ahead of people who have had their equally qualified resumes sitting around. So go for it :)
Not really if you are someone who has experience. It’s very targeted at new grads. I went once when I was searching for jobs and it was a big waste of money and time. No one will tell upfront they are looking for only junior candidates so you have to walk the entire career fair to find out. Also you have idiots assuming you were the diversity hire as I can see from the comment above. It’s usually a whole song and dance by big corporates to show they are diverse and care about diversity especially those have high attrition rate for women.
Not worth it unless someone pays for you
Actually if you are experienced you will not get offer right away. Companies will have full on site interview. So you can also meet team and they can meet you.
Skews to new grads. Many of the companies seem to just want to gather as many resumes as possible versus look for qualified candidates. The benefit I would see if getting a good understanding of all the different businesses and verticals our there - and where tech is going (I mean location-wise... are they staffing up in Austin, Raleigh, whatever)... But, I was really disappointed in it last year and would push to not go again.
Yes, Wayfair interviews for fresh grads onsite. For experienced, they will go through full interviews.
I never attended Grace Hopper but I interacted with them a lot. 2 years ago, I interviewed many Grace Hopper candidates for internship position at Nordstrom. Last year, several of them got offer on the spot. If you already graduated, you may get full time job offer. I'd said you go for it.
It skews to internship/new grad opportunities. Even those companies who do offers on the spot tend to only do that for internships. SWE have more job opportunities than those in ML, DS usually. It’s super expensive to go, and trying to get a pass is like trying to get Hamilton tickets if you don’t have a sponsor. All that being said it is a great place to meet tons of companies and kick off conversations.
