For hiring managers and hiring teams, how much does the candidates experience and domain knowledge influence decision?

Per the title. Say you have: Candidate A - very relevant work history and crossover experience to the job and team. But does mid for coding round. Candidate B - much less relevant experience, not as comfortable discussing the role/team/job. But does perfect coding rounds. Who do you pick?

If the candidate demonstrated strong communication and problem solving skills, and a healthy desire to learn the domain etc, I would go with B

So you wouldn’t choose the person working on the same problems and wants to continue gaining experience in the same domain as you and you’d rather have the one that can invert a binary tree?

it’s easier to teach someone an industry than it is to teach them a strong understanding of how to build scalable and resilient systems

No, the one who inverts the binary tree faster than candidate B.
