Recently was involved in a car accident in my VW Jetta. This happened in Cincinnati, OH. I have the accident in my DashCam and the fault is clearly on the other person. Thank God, no personal injuries. I had full insurance coverage too. Progressive (auto insurance) was initially very slow and said they will repair for my damages. After seeing my DashCam video, they are happy to declare the car to be totalled. Why is this sudden change of tone after they see the proof of fault was not on my side? As far as the other party involved, the other company Esurance won't start the process as the person involved won't pick the phone. So trying to use my own insurance company to get through this. The repair cost of the car is 2k more than the value of the car before accident. So should I ask for payout for damages or the value of the car alone? It seems they don't wanna pay anything for the emotional trauma & wage loss caused. Or should I hire an attorney to maximize the payout. Have you experienced something like this before? how much is your fake emotional trauma worth?
Lol, it's not fake. I am slowly starting to realize that it's just a car as time pass by since the accident. Just a lot of personal memories associated with that car makes me feel so attached.
😹
There’s an option to get the payout and keep the car. One idiot woman crashed into a friends car and that woman’s old junk car was declared total loss even though it was drivable. She took the payout and continued driving the car. About the wage loss, it depends if that’s part of your insurance coverage. For emotional trauma, you need an attorney but that will cost a lot and cause more emotional trauma
Typically you forfeit the title when you take the payout, the car is no longer yours.
That's what I felt. Getting attorney is way too annoying. At this point, I just wanna get over this.
What’s the dashcam you are using? I need to buy one that is cheap and stores the data to be retrieved
Mine was a Roav DashCam. Got it for <50 bucks. Well worth it!
By no means insurance advice, but as a random citizen, if you truly feel you are wronged or being treated unfairly by the insurance company, contact a lawyer who specializes in insurance matters.
Will have to wait and see what the insurance company has to offer. Based on it I am thinking of that option. Although I am keeping in mind that it is a very tiring path that consumes my time and efforts too.
Not a biased opinion but Progressive is great when it comes to handling claims when you are involved in an accident. I got in an accident 5 yrs ago (before I worked there) and the response was great. They took care of everything and got me a rental as well. My total damage was around 6K. They will most likely end up paying you the value of the car rather than fixing the car. Good luck !
Ya they are pretty slow this week understandably due to holidays. Hoping find something next week
If the car is totaled, the repair costs exceed the value of the car. You’ll be paid the value of the car, not the value of the repairs. Let Progressive fight Esurance over fault, that part doesn’t matter to you.
If I try to get the same Jetta from market now, it costs way more than kbb value in Cincinnati. So wondering how that would play out. Coz I can't buy the same car again in the market now with that valuation
You’re seeing the delta between the blue book value and the sale price. Not much you can do about that but shop around or apply the money as a down payment to something newer.
