I’m making roughly $400k as a Sr SWE in Dallas. I’m looking to take the next step as Lead/Staff/Principal and I’m curious who is hiring at this TC range in “Zone 3” areas and allows full remote work. If you’re making this range and above in Zone 3 I’d appreciate any insights regardless of your role. I’m highly capable but I suck at networking tbh. 11 YoE. #tech

How likely is a company to hire a Lead/Staff/Principal when you haven’t been promoted to that title?
There’s a ton of senior roles right now but very few staff+ roles. I’d assume any of the big tech companies could get close if they allow remote. You have to convince them you’re at staff level. I am staff and 75% of my interviews are for senior since I got laid off and that’s the only level they’re hiring for
Damn, I feel like all I see is staff roles and no senior. Especially when looking for remote friendly companies
I’ve only been look at larger (public) remote companies and late stage startups. I can generally convince recruiters I’m at the staff level but they don’t have headcount so I settle for the senior interview. There’s a few remote companies like square that are hiring for both senior and staff. Negotiating is also really hard now even with competing offers. There’s too many people in the pipeline. Generally they’ll only give a token bump.

Get promoted at dbx
Promotion would put me at the bottom of the next level leaving me around halfway to my current goal. I do have it on my mind but the current environment for my team makes this unlikely. It may be possible if I switch teams but at that point I reset my rapport with my manager and team and it’s more palatable to jump and get bigger TC.
There are no 600k plus remote LCOL jobs at L5-6
