Hi Blinders! I currently am deciding between above too, both look the same to me. Please help! Salesforce AMTS, Bangalore Base: 17 LPA Bonus: 1.7 LPA Joining Bonus: 4 Lacs RSU: 25000 USD with 25% for year 1. Net: 27.91 lacs INR for year 1 without Tax. Rakuten Mobile, Tokyo Monthly: 310,000 yen = 3.72 Mil yen yearly Joining Bonus: 482,000 yen Yearly Bonus: 1.22 Mil yen Net Cash: 5.42 Mil yen ~ 31.44 Lacs INR This same thing has been asked before but I have some different conditions. 1. Rakuten provides a 5 day breakfast/ lunch and dinner. For the remaining two days I'll manage and bear the costs of food. I can get a sharehouse in Tokyo for 75k yen per month realistically. Also the tax would be about 15% on my net income. Travel to office expenses would be given to me additionally. 2. In Bangalore I can get a PG for 15k INR per month. Tax rate is also higher than Tokyo. I think I can assume about 20% tax deduction because of slabs. I don't know whether Salesforce provides free food or not. 3. According to my calculations, it looks like I can save more in Tokyo, but I might be underestimating too much. Also I feel like staying in India but again this might be because of the habit of the comfort zone. Even if I go to Japan, I'd like to come back to India after 1 or 1.5 years. I'd like to get an unbiased opinion of Blinders on the same.
3.7M yen for Japan is too less. Try negotiating for more. Even Accenture Japan pays much more than that.
I have been in Rakuten Japan and I have been in Bangalore. You need to think about 2-3 things. 1. Staying in another country is an amazing experience. I loved staying in Japan, learnt a lot of things about myself, opened up my mind. It was one of the most painful experiences of my life. I loved it. 2. Your career progression will die. Believe me when I say this. The novelty is lost pretty soon. You will soon realise that this is too little money, and want to switch. When you switch, you will realise that they won't give you more than a 10 percent raise on your current salary and you will only get frustrated. The yearly increments at Rakuten were a joke. I have a capitalist mindset in that I would want to be paid, get increments, bonuses etc. according to the effort I put in, but that never happened. 3. When I worked at Rakuten Mobile, the quality of engineers there was very questionable. I want to cry thinking about how worthless working there was. No impact. While I learnt a few things, nothing helps you more than when you go to a place that has amazing engineers. I am very very glad I came back. 4. Your salary is very tightly coupled to the conversion rate. When I went to Japan, the JPY-INR rate was around 0.69, when I came back, it was around 0.55. Lakhs of Rupees wiped out of my salary just like that. To summarise, it might feel like a lot of money in Japan right now, but the fact is that Japan is losing working population fast and they are just trying to get in Indians to work for them since for us, the starting money looks more than in India. I can guarantee you that in 5 years you will earn more in India than what you will in Japan.
Great insight! Looks like I'd be going for Salesforce
Nice insight! Forget what I said.
Salesforce provides free breakfast and lunch
Salesforce provides free breakfast -> snacks -> lunch -> snacks -> Dinner
Go to Rakuten. Mainly for the experience of working in a new work environment and living in a new country.
This. Go to Japan, get the experience for a year and two, then come back if you want.
