Is Metaverse Facebook's Fire phone moment or Microsoft's Windows Mobile/Nokia moment? Amazon and Windows both gave up at some point. When will Facebook give up?
Honestly who cares
It's Apple's iPhone moment if Apple had actually built the core technologies for smartphone itself.
That's the problem. Apple and Google had the entire ecosystem built together and the users were ready and the adoption was simple. In Apple's terms - magical. It feels like Meta is building something that no one is ready to adopt yet. Maybe after 10-20 years. Can meta continue to burn $$$ till then?
LOL keep drinking that Kool-Aid Oculuster.
It's different because they're all in on the Metaverse in a way that Amazon and Microsoft weren't on Fire/Windows Phone
That's fair.
Microsoft Xbox moment. It'll be somewhat successful, but not revolutionary (until the AR you can wear whole day). It'll have diehard fans, but not everybody is into it.
It's Stadia, Windows Phone, and Nook but if you just kept pouring money into them hoping it would just turn around next quarter.
I am not even sure what problems metaverse is trying to solve for us. People can already connect with each others using PC and phones. Promising a more immerse experience is just not working with current hardware and software they have. There is a huge gap between expectations and deliverables. The younger generations seems to be more interested in the tik-tok like experience than anything else.
Hire me as ad director, I will emphasize porn and sports games ads.
I think of it as Microsoft Kinect 2.0. Cool to demo, exciting for the first few hours, maybe gives you some exercise... but kinda useless and annoying once the novelty wears off. But at least Microsoft wasn't dumb enough to bet the company on it.
I think apple getting into VR will give meta a boost. Apple with their ecosystem can help drive adoption with the Apple community and eventually it will be meta and Apple in the VR space. It is a struggle for now , but eventually it will become mainstream.
What's the difference, they both flopped?
Amazon learnt the lesson quickly. Microsoft dragged it for a long time including acquiring Nokia.
Fair enough I guess. Pretty sure it's going to bring down the whole company to a fraction of it's former self so I'm going to go with Microsoft's mobile as a stand in for "will stay in too long"
