At pretty much every open house I went to in South Bay (Cupertino, Saratoga, Sunnyvale, West San Jose, etc), literally everyone is an Indian or Chinese immigrant. I see no White folks. I see no born and raised Indian-Americans or Chinese-Americans. Ik there are many Americans (White and Asian) in tech as well and many Americans in tech with family money. Why aren't they buying homes? Why do only Indian/Chinese immigrants want to buy these homes? #mortgage #housing
Most of the high paid tech jobs are taken by Indians and Chinese. So to no surprise they are the bulk of the open house shoppers
They are def a huge portion, but Americans/other immgrants are still def the plurality.
Not here. Many of them likely are living with parents or their parents have given them/sold their houses to them off market and moved elsewhere to retire. It’s crazily expensive in the sf Bay Area
The ones raised in US probably have homes from their parents or grandparents or prefer living in condos.
Most of the Americans I meet in tech of all races don't seem to mind condos and seem to prefer living in SF/San Mateo for the increased liveliness/social scene.
It’s also cultural. Home ownership in Asian countries is very heavily prioritized.
Open home attendance is a poor metric to determine who's buying it... A lot of people can get a look outside of the open house...and a lot of people who go to open houses aren't all that serious. There's some overlap though of people going for multiple views of the property and using the open house for that. But really open house is for the agent to get new clients and market themselves lol
Try places where schools are not hyper competitive and you will find non Asians like me. E.g Santa Clara, willow glen, Campbell
Lol, i visit open houses as a hobby
It’s not an income issue. My parents ran a restaurant in Palo Alto with white power couples in the TC 700k-10M+ (2015 era). They loved living in condos/communities and renting while going on multiple trips a year. The truly rich at 20-50M bought homes but had paid help do everything (cleaning, nannying, chauffeur). Seems like White Americans prioritize lifestyle over real estate a lot of the times and if you can’t afford to have everything serviced, a lot of them will just opt for condo living.
White people llive in other places in bay area - SF, Marin County, East bay (east from berkley/oakland)
For us, we didn’t want anything to do with the hyper competitive schooling atmosphere that Asians bring to an area, so we sought out areas with schools and communities more closely aligned with how they were when we grew up 30-40 years ago in America.
That’s South Bay, as a whitey here it’s crazy strange but my theory is, they all migrate here, where they’re from suck so this is heaven and they all want to work at the HQ so MTV etc. Meanwhile whitefolks and or those born and raised here don’t value it the same way and seek other lifestyles
I'm from Greece and feel very out of place 😂.
