How much of your household take-home pay goes to the mortgage?
Joining BB in around a week, what are the working hours like? Will be in ENG. it’d be great if it could be like 6-3, or something like that, i am an early bird
If your manager is a lifer, then expect to be stared at to leave after your manager. Didn't work for me. Edit: expect to see colleagues randomly bringing their kids to work with them because this company doesn't really believe in wfh flexibility. Edit 2: hexagon desk seating should have gave it away. Your manager is stationed at the entrance to keep an eye on the goats in the playpen.
are you currently still with bbg? Can you elaborate on the hexagon desks?
No longer there. Where I used to work, the office looked like this. Managers were positioned at the left or right of the entrance. You can actually see a screen clipped on the right, that's where a manager sits. Plebes sit inside the hexagon. https://data.bloomberglp.com/company/sites/2/2017/06/View-3_Desk-Cluster_mini.jpg I honestly find Amazon a breath of fresh air in comparison. And I'm told Amazon is not the nicest corp either.
my manager comes in 7:30 and leaves around 4:30
is the hexagon thing true? or what others have said 😭
A couple of the offices do have hexagonal seating, but that persons fear mongering about “managers being placed at the front to monitor you” or whatever is definitely not wide spread. There are a couple toxic departments in the company, so you may be hearing bad things from them, but my manager/TL are on the outside of my pod and definitely don’t feel like they’re watching me
Tc & yoe pls.. you may work out timings.. usually no big deal
YOE: 5, new tc: 250k. Is there really an expectation to eat at your desk? Along with what the other commenter mentioned? 😵💫
Nah, definitely not true. Or if it’s true, it’s only that commenters team. Everyone in my team takes a legit lunch break
So op, how's life there?
It’s good actually, super super super flexible. Even on WFH, some people are partial on some days. Desks aren’t hexagonal per se, at least in my dept, but I have seen it. My team/TL is not toxic, so I can see how “keeping an eye on the playpen” works and can be toxic.
You didn’t ask your HM this question before joining?
They just mentioned 3 days in office, 2 days wfh, and their team is flexible on times. But my hm is a lifer for sure
Fair enough. Congrats on the new position 👌
