Game developer commits suicide after MeToo allegations

Basically Zoe Quinn (dev of Depression Quest) accused a co-worker of sexual harassment through a post on Twitter (she didn't even go to the police mind you). Next day guy is fired, a lot of articles pop up about it almost immediately and the guy commits suicide a few days later. Nobody even took the time to verify what happened. People are now deleting their tweets, Twitter accounts and articles about this, basically trying to downplay this. Thoughts? Full story details https://youtu.be/NhF3JEvOVE8

How do you know 'nobody took time to verify'? Did you take time to verify?

Unity Lvl5Thug OP Sep 1, 2019

Doubt they did that if the guy was fired the next day

Lyft !lyft Sep 1, 2019

So you are basically speculating. YOU DID NOT VERIFY. Do you know that one can sue the company for wrongful termination if was terminated without investigating sexual harassment alligations?

This better not resurrect Gamergate drama. E: Also this is why serious accusations like this need to be reported to law enforcement first rather than the news media or god forbid the Twitter user base. Now the chance of a proper follow-up is dead and all we have left are wild, politically motivated speculation and bickering.

Would also help if companies didn’t snap to fire people immediately when somebody posts a twitter accusation.

She’s a disgusting human being for not telling the police and instead putting it on Twitter. To me, that immediately discredits any of its merit. You’re mad at your ex so you literally try to ruin his entire life, subsequently leading to his suicide, rather than solving it with him or the authorities? Coward.

Activision Blizzard DTXE60 Sep 3, 2019

For me, his suicide doesn't put him in a good light. If he was innocent, why suicide instead of fighting back?

Chase ptgi36 Sep 3, 2019

Reputation is ruined forever, whether he’s innocent or not. He was her ex boyfriend and she was just venting about his behavior while they were dating. People have committed suicide for feeling embarrassed before, and not on a scale of millions of viewers retweeting and spreading it globally. Why even have police if we accept Twitter as judge and jury?

Are you fucking kidding me

Chase ptgi36 Sep 1, 2019

Yea I’m not really following why that’s relevant?

I never worked with the guy so it’s impossible for me to know whether they were correct to fire him or not. Most likely they were, maybe they weren’t. I doubt any company is going to fire a guy over an accusation if he is a good teammate and has no history of being creepy.

Unity Lvl5Thug OP Sep 1, 2019

Oh if you only knew

Chase ptgi36 Sep 1, 2019

You’re wildly optimistic. All it takes is a finger pointed at you from Twitter and your entire life is over. What is said can’t be unsaid. It plants the seed of doubt immediately, and regardless of your innocence, you are now toxic for anyone to be associated with you. Hence, it’s 10x easier for the company to simply let you go and hire a replacement so they don’t have the finger pointed at them, too. Harassment absolutely needs to be addressed and solved, but combating it with additional harassment seems a bit hypocritical.

As always, the best way to not be accused of something is to not be a creepy predator. I don't know the details of this story, but if he was fired then it was likely for a reason. People with more details than any of us made that decision. Of course it's sad that it ended as it did. No one deserves to feel that suicide is the only way out. Which is why we should have better mental health care and awareness around mental illness.

Chase ptgi36 Sep 2, 2019

This took a pretty fast 90 degree turn into non-sequitur. What does being bullied into suicide have to do with individuals with mental illness...

Imagine still believing ZQ, the professional victim

EA Grindle Sep 3, 2019

I knew Alec personally, he was struggling with depression for as long as I knew him (he even made a podcast about coping with mental illness) and I feel like it was extremely irresponsible for Quinn to release the information the way she did. This shouldn’t be the end of his life. I wanted to see him continue to grow and evolve and now that won’t happen. Quinn is hardly the innocent victim that the media often portrays her as, and I recommend any guys associated with her go full-blown Mike Pence with her and just keep her at a very safe distance.

Twitch nonezo Sep 3, 2019

Are you accusing someone of a crime (the crime of her making up a fake sexual harassment allegation), without any evidence? Do you not believe that she is innocent until proven guilty? Do you have any evidence that she is not "innocent" as you claim?

EA Grindle Sep 3, 2019

No, I’m literally not, and if I recall, she didn’t accuse Alec of rape. I’m recounting her past which was revealed to be super shady during the whole Gamergate fiasco. She’s not the damsel the media desperately wants her to be.

This is hilarious!! If you choose to voluntarily enter a relationship with a mentally ill trans imbecile like ZQ (http://archive.is/rLCqR ), then you 100% deserve all the misery that is guaranteed to head your way. No sympathy for this fool whatsoever
