BREAKING: Internal sources confirm another round of layoffs just hit emails at Tesla. For real.
I’ve been getting a few gender-gap mails of late and this irritates me a bit as a woman. I find it completely absurd that people aren’t aware of the ratio of women:men. If there are 10 women in a team of 50, that’s because when we were in school taking CS courses, there were 10 of us in a class of 50. I assume the number of applications (or even deserving people) for a req, would be of the same ratio. I am completely against inequal pay for the same work, but I fail to understand how and why can someone want it to be 1:1. Thoughts please?
That’s still more than aerospace engineering
*cries in corner together*
lmao yea the ratio is probably best in cs
Anything to focus on rather than building excellent products and destroying the competition. I wonder how a company truly run by SJWs is going to survive in the marketplace.
SJW VCs are all the rage. Oh wait, social justice doesn't actually make money...
They paint a horrible picture for the rest
Interesting that you should mention this. There's another thread going on with an HR defending equal quotas for women in ThoughtWorks.
How can you defend it?!!
Using the same crap every SJW uses. Saying that it inculcates better workplace culture. They even have a post about it on their website, specifically mentioning that they hire equal number of men and women.
Finally someone gets it! I've been saying this for years. In my undergrad classes there was only 5-10 girls in a class of 40 or 50. This was the complete opposite in some other majors. For example in my psychology class out of 100 or so student only 10 were male. If you want more gender balance in the software industry you have to start at the root of the problem by encouraging more females to go into computer science and/or engineering. But no one wants to admit that because that takes real effort and time to see results. Those "VPs of diversity" wouldn't be able to get their fat bonuses based on forced diversity numbers. Going back to the fundamental problem, I think one of the root causes is with the US secondary school system. The rampant bullying of "nerds" discourages many kids from even displaying interest in science and engineering. Another thing I want to mention is that the gender gap in CS classes drastically improved when I got into grad school. This was because there were many female international students, mostly from India and China. From what I've heard from friends, no one bullies you for being the smart "nerdy" kid.
I wholeheartedly agree with you friend
That's right. In US schools, knowledge is not respected.
HR can't understand this though. They never went to school
The reason why people are being hired on h1 visas is the lack of skilled workers. Similarly, gender inequality also stands in tech atleast.
As much as I am a fan of a globally mobile work force, h1 visas are a cost control fiction not a real supply problem.
I know h1 workers who earn more than their American counterparts. What's your point? Also, that isn't the discussion.
When all the hullabaloo started on urms that was my take too. Out of my engineering class of 120. There were 2 woman. 1 Vietnamese and 1 Caucasian I total support open the doors and encourage young people to take it on as a career but it can’t be artificially fixed without dumbing it down. Also a recent experience we have had some all night sw debuts due to a deadline. A couple of females won’t stay. They are obviously not as energized as the male engineers. There is a predisposition based on genes or environment ? I will leave it there
The more gender equal a society is, the more men and women choose different professions. The countries that are the most repressive have the most gender balanced professions. Let people choose their professions. Stop trying to force women into engineering.
Because they liberal.
Is that synonymous to being stupid?
