On the 30 Under 30 Consumer Technology as an example, there are some people that were selected who are currently working as mid-level Product Managers at LinkedIn, Instagram, Airbnb, Amazon and Twitter. These people are certainly talented but they are simple tech employees who work at a big Corp, have managers, 0 reports etc like thousands of others in the US. Why are they selected? Isnโt the Forbes list supposed to be prestigious and showcase individuals who are creating value and innovation in the consumer technology space? PS: Asking this question genuinely, not out of jealousy (I already see the trolls coming). I donโt think I did something incredible yet to deserve being in the list.
TC?
Mine? Youโll be surprised.
600 people are picked for 60 categories. You have a 1 in 10 shot.
Itโs a complete joke. I knew someone on it.
Pretty sure those lists are โpay to playโ
Friends with the writers or their VC or mentor is friends with one of the writers.
What VCs / mentors specifically?
The finance list is probably the most impressive, but even there, it's not consistent. I have several friends who got on through connections and referrals.
Completely joke, I know someone on it who was later fired
That's hilarious.
People hire PR agents for themselves - not kidding
