Getting blacklisted from Microsoft

I received an offer from Microsoft, accepted it and committed a joining date. However I’m inclined to not join now due to much better offer from Lyft recently. I’m not sure how to deal with this situation, can Microsoft blacklist me for future openings if I don’t join now? I don’t want to burn the bridges. Any insights/suggestions?

I want to know too

I know one case when my manager once expected a new hire to join Microsoft, and on joining day, he didn't show up. He joined Amazon. my manager was not upset 🙂 but I don't know if HR was upset or not.

I’d be pissed lol. No word upfront from them?

Blind app needs to be extended to HR groups.

What says they aren't?

Good point! I am a new user. I assumed based by this article and the use of “tech workers.” https://www.mercurynews.com/2018/01/25/meet-the-ceo-behind-blind-an-anonymous-chat-app-that-has-tech-workers-talking/

Edit: I may be wrong about the blacklisted part. Had a friend who was blacklisted for a couple of years. It'll suck to say no but it's better than joining Microsoft and regretting it. It'll be like being in a bad relationship.

How do you know he was blacklisted?

Amazon Qlch60 Feb 1, 2018

From what I remember he was told he would be blacklisted. He did end up interviewing after three years down the line with no major issues.

Try to make the best you can of a bad situation. Tell them about the other new offer politely and say that a below market salary wouldn’t cut it. In case Microsoft revised offer, you can consider it since the Lyft stocks could be a bit illiquid for the time being.

I'm with this guy. If you make so the ball is back in their court then its their choice to pay up or let you go. Much better imo.

Microsoft bingmyride Feb 1, 2018

I doubt Microsoft would revise their offer after it was accepted with a committed start date. Most likely it would be a take it or leave it thing at this stage.

Microsoft matbet Feb 1, 2018

yea join Lyft or you will regret

Microsoft Sleeper9 Feb 1, 2018

Just tell them that you have a better offer.

Oath Uxwh77 Feb 1, 2018

Be polite and respectful, but firm. You've received a better offer. They could try to compete, but are you interested if they do? Is your single drive TC? If so, then stand by that. Be ready to walk away, but be nice about it.

FYI if you’re blacklisted at Microsoft I think that applies for LinkedIn as well.

I’ve seen people renege on offers on my team. I don’t even remember their names after a couple days. I wouldn’t worry about it if Lyft offer is better...
