I was wondering if a person can get fired (due to low PSC rating) before the layoffs happen in Apr? Are there any benefits an employee would receive if they are fired? Eg: severance, health insurance etc. I was warned recently (due to low rating), so I was wondering if I should wait to get laid off or leave voluntarily? PS: I’m on H1B #severance #layoff #fired #meta #tech #mentalhealth #google #amazon #apple
Always better to get laid off than fired. Even if there’s no severance it’s easier to collect unemployment benefits if you’re out of work “for no fault of your own.”
Unemployment is pennies compared to tech tc
Generally perf related issues is "non cause". It's not like theft or assault or something. I've never seen anyone have trouble with unemployment for being fired from a tech job unless the circumstances were special.
Fired means no unemployment insurance
From an ex-Meta person here Meta fires outrightly only for misconduct or for violating internal only information concerns (knew only 1 person who was outrightly fired). Underperformance puts you on a PIP. Usually you take the 12 week severance they give you and leave right away
Unless it is fraud, assault or something illegal many of the large companies will not challenge an unemployment insurance claim.
You should be doing your job and not get fired.
It’s not always possible. There can be mismatch with expectations or simply one can be at wrong place in wrong time.

Just to correct some comments, while severance pays a lot more than unemployment benefits and are therefore preferable, you do qualify for unemployment if you are fired - so long as it’s not for some intentional act or gross misconduct. You don’t qualify for unemployment if you voluntarily resign.
What exactly are unemployment benefits? How does one avail these?
Lol everybody left OP on read
If you get fired you don’t get severance
Fired *for cause* and you loose severance fired just means you’ve been let go. Same as laid off or terminated.
If fired, there is no company severance but you still qualify for unemployment if the reason is low performance or skills mismatch. Layoff qualifies for both company severance and unemployment.
Troll. Dude is either sleeping or this is a troll. No one can be this unaware!
Wanna help a random girl out? Meta referral would be 👌right now.
we don't work at meta, so please explain random abbreviations that might be company or region specific.
Such as what?
Do they think H1B is Meta exclusive 🤔
Just post in an internal thread dude. Jeez
If Zuck doesn't like you he'll fire you
Did you miss all the layoff news? Meta’s previous layoff had a great severance
the manager must not be an ahole to let OP benefit from it
Lol did you read the post @Snowflake? He’s talking about getting fired but not in the mass layoff
