Getting matched with a python only team at google

I am still unclear how the team matching process at google works. Say I want to be matched with a team that works on python mostly or even just Java, would that be possible if I just tell the recruiter?

Their team selection process is that they tell you which team to work on and then you do.

What about Facebook? I am assuming I can join the Instagram team since they work in python in the bootcamp

Facebook has a matching process where you spend a few weeks talking to different teams, and working on minor bugs in their codebase to get a feel for who you'd like to join. You'd definitely be able to pick a Python heavy team.

I'm still learning python. How'd you get started? I'm taking a course on udemy.

Need to start. I work in a non SWE role atm

A programmer who wants to only work with a specific language is like a carpenter that only wants to use a particular type of saw.

Okay, but also no. Programming languages make a big difference in the developer experience. Its the same reason you probably wouldn’t want a job that made you code in C#

^ why?

I doubt you could do this. Why do you want to work on only one language? If the reason is that you don't want to learn other languages: learning languages is easy compared to all the other stuff you will need to learn to be effective. Once you have worked at google for a while, you could change teams. You could choose to apply to teams that use python. But the first role you get is unlikely to allow you this sort of choice.
