I am heartbroken that I have been laid off from Microsoft. As someone who was committed to the company's mission and values, with high expertise and reputation in the area, this is not the outcome I was expecting. I'm left with a big question: Why couldn't I be rehired for a different role? Intel for instance rehired the laid off employees a few weeks afterwards. Why can't Microsoft do that and give higher priority to laid off employees? I wish there was an HR partner or a recruiter who could help me with those many relevant roles open now in Microsoft. #microsoft #microsoftlayoffs #microsofthiring
There is no such thing as “committed to the company’s mission and values”. Those are just arbitrary words strung together for their bio. We are disposable and companies will do things in an unfair way.
Yeah..sad truth
HR often views rehires from a layoff as full of potential issues... they did just kick you out... even if eng management doesn't care
I beliey that's a VP decision to select folks. Not HR
Microsoft is such a joke!!
Could you get rehired? Absolutely. Take this as an opportunity to understand your own value. You've put Microsoft on a pedestal. Take it off there now. It's a job. It's a business that will cast you away the second you're no longer make business sense to have around. It can be empowering if you allow it, but don't put all your self worth into working for the company.
It all depends on the role you were in and if you fit a role someplace else. MSFT as an employer has no responsibility in ensuring you get rehired at the role you were at if it opens again or in getting you a new role someplace else. The severance offered is intended for you to have time to interview and get another job within MSFT or outside it. Why is it their job to tell you "Hey you are getting laid off, but apply for these other roles which you should fit in"? You seem to think they care about you and your commitment to their mission and values with high expertise and reputation is meaningless. They want you to have all of that while you are an employee. The moment you are not you are just a person they don't care about. When you are an employee they want you to care about those things and have those things, but in reality you are a number. You have a job to do, you are paid to do it, and that is it. Part of doing your job is being committed to those things while you are with an employer. I am sorry to say that is a harsh reality to live with. Everyone thinks that an employer should care about their employees, they dont even though they make a big fuss that they do and this is all the things they are doing. It is your job to find a new role, apply, interview, and find a new job. The resources they would point you to are available to everyone. The careers page is available for everyone to look at open roles. Not trying to be an ass, but i am trying to tell you that this thought process isn't going to get you anything or anywhere. The sooner you realize that is the sooner you understand and take the steps needed to resolve it. It isnt going to be easy, but the first step is to understand you need to look out for you and if you are lucky you will find an employer who actually cares about you, decisions they make that effect you, and looks out for you. They are rare, but they are out there.
No Employers care about their employees. Companies are there to make no money not make people feel good and care for them. People have to get that message.
Microsoft did a bunch of that they called redeployment. Instead of laying off people they moved them to other parts of the company. If you were laid off it means that there was no where to move you. It’s unfortunate but during layoffs someone has to get laid off.
None in our org got redeployed afaik.
I had people assigned to my team 3 weeks ago.
[Blind] Check out this post! Got re-hired by Microsoft after Layoff, I'm back baby!!!🤘 (Layoffs) https://us.teamblind.com/s/fqhwTwDM
He was lucky. I am not :(
I’m with you. Even though we’re just number to the company, but all our life is built on/around the Redmond community. It’s emotionally painful when being forced to leave an environment that you’re so connected.
Yeah true. 3 months passed and no offers yet :(

Sorry to hear. Was laid off in Jan from Google. Tried the same thing you did but did not work out as internal recruiters also got laid off. Hope you find roles soon.
Good you finally got a job at Chase. But many MS recruiters are still there.
MS recruiters didn’t get affected that much which was surprising.
