Hey all What was your first day, week, two weeks, etc like when you started your tech job, and what team and what company was it for? When I started in Office at Microsoft I had a 1 day all up Microsoft training on things like benefits ans HR but when I actually got to my job there was almost nothing! I had a desk and pieces of a computer in a box and I had to set it up and then was basically told to read wikis or onenotes to learn about my team. It was super unstructured and unorganized and hard to get going. Do other places do it better? What would you like to see it be like? I'm especially interested in #facebook #microsoft #google #amazon #uber #flatiron #netflix #zillow #renttherunway and any small, lean, fun companies! Thanks!
Aren't you at Yahoo? So not exact same team I guess...
Facebook does a great job at this. First day is HR stuff, you don't get your equipment on purpose. Second day you get your laptop and phone all set up, plus a devserver, also set up. Next day you are going to check in (some bullshit) code into Facebook and also pull it - because knowing how to pull your code is as important as knowing how to check it in, LOL. Fourth day you can start working on tasks - these are tasks specifically assigned to bootcampers. They are small, they are easy, but they are real. There are people sitting in lounges ready to help n00bs with questions in their area, just walk up to them and ask. Or post to any team's page.
In the exact same boat on the same exact team lmao
Aren't you at Yahoo? What were you expecting or what would you have liked?
I didn’t update blind I work in office
