Hi I have always been a sde. Backend engineer mostly. Given AI is hot, I want to get started on data science and see what’s it all about. I have zero experience and knowledge about data science and want to start from scratch. What’s a good online courses or boot camp to get started. I keep getting ads on YouTube about Datacamp. Is it worth it? $300/year. Tc 145k Yoe 4 #data #dataanalytics #datascience #meta #google #amazon #apple #goldmansachs #tpg
These things are next to useless--don't waste your time. You're also not going to be able to land any real ML job without direct experience. Are there any opportunities to get involved with relevant projects in your current role / org?
Refresh/learn calculus and stats if necessary. Then take a couple months to read and try to implement crucial deep learning papers on transformers, Bert, T5, Adam, dropout techniques, embedding techniques, GPT1/2, llama, etc. towards the end maybe focus on MLops related stuff but it sounds like you might already know the bulk of it
Datacamp is a good way to dip your toes and see if you even like it. They occasionally offer discounts or promotions so good to wait for one of those. That being said it’s a looooooong journey from scratch to actually being productive in this field and the entry level job market is over saturated with people who suddenly found a passion for ML and AI over the past few years.
Scalar
please don't do it, lower pay and more workload unless it's MLE
There is basically no way that it's worth it financially.
Dont do it
Why?
