Ghosted by Citadel Securities after onsite

EDIT: Got the offer! Thanks for your replies guys. Interviewed for a grad quant role at Citadel Securities a month ago, and I felt the onsite went really well - I solved the problems they gave me, and it seemed like all the interviewers enjoyed the conversations. Given this, and the fact that I also have a masters in math from a tier 1 uni, and have done an internship at one of {Jump, JS}, I don't think they immediately rejected me. However, I'm now pretty sure I failed: I didn't hear anything from them for 2 weeks, after which the recruiter emailed me and said "the team is still discussing, and we will get back to you asap". 2 weeks after this, I messaged the recruiter again, asking for an update (I might have to speed up processes with other firms if I get an offer) - but it's now been 1 more week with no reply. So it's been 5 weeks, without any updates or feedback from the onsite. How common is this? And is there any hope at all that the wait is not due to a flat out rejection? They took over a month to decide for me and I ended up getting the offer. Lots of people are taking vacation right now, and I’m guessing some of your interviewers or HR are among them. Give it time. If they’re still discussing it’s a good sign.

Thank you. That makes me a bit more hopeful.

I think Citadel is the kind of place where they are hiring for a particular team (as opposed to hiring against a company wide bar), so they really want to interview enough people to be certain of fit.

This. Oftentimes, we'll be recruiting for a specific role and have a handful of potential candidates spread out over weeks (sometimes months). On rare occasions, one of them will be so amazing that we immediately hire and cancel the rest. If someone clearly doesn't meet the bar, they will get rejected immediately. For someone who is "good enough" and who doesn't have any competing offers with deadlines, we'll wait until we've had a chance to interview the remaining candidates and pick the best one.

Citadel is slow af at giving offers. It has to go through a lot of levels unfortunately

Takes 2-4 weeks whether reject or accept

Citadel qsGD01 Dec 16, 2020

Citadel is very slow as others have said, but they reject people really quickly

Every hire goes up to the CEO iirc. Give it some time.

Don’t trip, just wait till Friday/ Monday and send a follow up. I’m sorry if it feels unhelpful but it’s the only thing you can really do. Definitely wouldn’t assume I didn’t get the offer though. Best of luck friend

This is normal. It took 3 weeks after my final interview to get an offer. Ask your recruiter via email in a nice way if you’re still a viable candidate. As a former recruiter, I wouldn’t send out final round rejections until the chosen candidate showed up for day 1. Shit happens and life goes on. Interview at other companies. Starting at Citadel in January 2021, but will still use my Capital One login. Fuck it, why not?

Right.... you can use whatever company you want

Jane Street Capital JBoC63 Dec 16, 2020

This is not a big deal, they’ll take their time, but should also give you plenty of time to decide once they give an offer. If you get a competing offer with a deadline, they’ll get back to you pretty darn fast though.
