I was contacted by the recruiter for a position with the Microsoft Hololens team. We agreed to have a conversation and talk further about the position. He did not call, nor had the courtesy to leave a message. It is highly unprofessional and leaves a bad taste in the candidates mouth.
why is the candidate referring to himself in the third person
He's not. The last sentence is referring to candidates in general, rather than himself specifically.
it's joke
I've had this happen with a HoloLens team recruiter before lol. Was it for an MS position in Canada?
It was for the Redmond position
Amazon does this too!
MS recruiters are notoriously poor at communication, don't take it personally. Also try and get with a different recruiter, they usually don't coordinate.
This is also normal for Google NY.
I know it’s unpleasant. I was on the wrong end of it before too. But that is just how it is. If I don’t hear back in a week, I will assume that we are not moving ahead and move on. If Satya is your friend, you probably can make them pay for being unprofessional or nasty to you, but for most of us here, yeah just move on. You are not obligated to work for them if they fly you in for a free night stay and a day of food. Same thing, they are not obligated to make your life better by setting you up for an opportunity with their company... that’s how I make peace with this.
It is commonplace, and yes it is disrespectful and unprofessional.
Empathy for recruiters is something you should develop. They are usually temps with high quotas who make a fraction of what you will.
Irrelevant to common communication courtesy.
Happened to me too from MS, non-Hololens., seems common for them.

It’s normal. I was contacted by a recruiter from Apple and poof - disappeared!
Something being commonplace doesn't make it normal.
