Could you please help me evaluate the offers? GitHub Staff Software Engineer (remote) - TC ~320K Facebook E5 (remote or CA) no numbers yet, but according to levels.fyi TC ~380K? Regardless TC, GitHub offers a higher role and overall it looks like a nice place to work at. FB it's, of course, more $ and maybe valuable brand? Thank you! Current TC: 🥜
Is github US remote or global remote? Depending on your yoe and competing offers you can push first year TC upto 500k first year including sign on at fb.
It's US remote and they have different tiers based on your location. FB's offer is going to be highest, but I couldn't make GitHub match it, but it's already a very decent compensation and I just would like to understand what would be a better company to join. The team in GitHub looks great, in FB I'll need to go through bootcamp to find a team to join.
Fb has a lot of teams to pick from, I'm sure you'll find one that suits you. Overall fb is definitely not an easy ride, expectations are high, prepare to grind. The amount of growth and learning is enormous, especially if you're very solid on technical part.
GitHub staff is the max level you can reach. There will not be anything more to progress to. That is something to consider if you are ok with that.
Don't go to github, it's not a nice place to work anymore. MSFT really skyping it here lately
it's still nice
If you have any questions about GitHub feel free to DM.
Having worked for both, would say GitHub is way to go
320 seems pretty low for Staff?
It may be a little bit low for Staff, but it's a fully remote position (can get +20% if I move to Bay Area) and it just feels like a great opportunity. But I can be completely wrong 🤷🏻♂️
Yeah it seems like a good place to work, but not a ton of stock upside, I’d try to get 10-20% more especially if you have a higher offer from FB. I guess if your current comp is low both are great options.
