How does one get to Sr. Director with less than 10 yoe? I saw someone's profile on LinkedIn with crazy growth GitHub. I understand some can get early experience as a founder and catapult up the career ladder. But this leader had no such experience. What does it take?
Yeah at Indeed we have many senior directors who would only be managers elsewhere. Imagine being promoted to senior director and you only have a reporting tree of 10-15 people. That's Indeed for you.
Similar for GitHub. A director can have less than 10 reports which is just crazy. Middle manager bloat is a problem
Probably paid like a senior manager at a tier 1 company.
It’s weird that in an industry that seems to strive to become a meritocracy that you give a shit about YOE. Are you an engineer or are you a recruiter?
Especially outside of engineering there are some pretty made up titles. A senior director with less than five reports all ICs or less…
Which Sr Director? I know almost all of them and can pretty easily tell you how/why they got where they’re at. Keep in mind a Director at Amazon is not the same as a director at Microsoft or Meta or Google.
At some companies senior director = senior manager
