The job market is absolutely brutal right now
How is Github as an employer? I have first interview scheduled. Is it worth moving forward?

Just the first interview - I would recommend giving it your best and make decisions based on your interactions and answers to your questions. Worse case you got some real life interview practice
I like it a lot. It’s not perfect, but it’s pretty damn good.
Some issues you may find: politics, siloed teams, difficulty pushing cross-functional projects forward, a still settling relationship with Microsoft, and some senior leaders who chase shiny things to build out their resume. Some good things you’ll find though: great people, fantastic benefits, a really great product that’s widely used, and the ability to do what you want to do if you can prove the case behind it. I’ve done some great work at GitHub. I’ve also found moments of intense frustration, but hey that’s capitalism. Good with the bad.
All this, 100%. I'd also add pretty great DX. Not perfect but definitely better than anywhere else I've been. We build GitHub the way we want to use it.
Overall good company to work for
What is the wlb like ? I hear msft wlb is pretty bad these days ?
It’s team dependent but for most teams it’s very good WLB
The culture is really nice, no micromanagement, no politics (atleast in my area - support and sales) Jokes, memes and gifs encouraged. No unnecessary meetings, enthusiastic teammates.. Its like going back to college for me - work is fun here.
I like it here, it feels small with MSFT benefits. Good WLB and interesting work. Exciting products and really feels developer first, much more so than other large tech. If you want to work on developer tools and products this is the place to do it
I’ll add it’s no longer Ruby only (I came from Amazon and only wrote Java), my team here uses Go
What was your interview like? SWE?
