Is it normal to wait 3 months for a response? I keep following up every few weeks and the recruiter says the team is extremely busy but I am still very much under consideration. Why is this taking forever doesn’t seem very likely I will get an offer so why not just email a rejection and cut me loose? #interview #github
This is normal for GitHub post MSFT acquisition because of the re-orgs and MSFT imports. I was able to apply on LinkedIn and went through interview rounds to get an offer within two months. What role/team are you interviewing for?
Sales / Security
Yeah that lines up, best of luck.
Do you want to join that bad?
I was passionate about the position it hit all of my requirements. I liked the people I discussed with. Saw some future upside too. but now a little jaded. At this point i’m kinda over it . If they eventually call great but who knows if that will ever happen I would probably be happy with just a generic rejection email.
Well, then maybe you will need to wait more. I can tell you this month won’t be fast. Maybe they are hesitant about you because they found someone internally.
If you already completed the on-site round and D&I round both, tell them that you have another offer. It worked for me.
What is d&i?
Diversity & Inclusion
This is very normal, GitHub is a shit show right now
I had a similar experience. I did the onsite loop for senior SWE a couple months ago. I really enjoyed meeting the interviewers and the overall interview process. Everyone was super nice and down to earth. Got the impression WLB was excellent. The recruiter let me know the feedback was great. Then I learned another candidate had filled the role I was applying for, which was a bummer, but my recruiter said they weren't rejecting me and they were looking for another team. I told him about several teams I was interested in, and he let me know he was chatting with them. It's been radio silence for about a month since then, and I've been following up every week or so but no luck. I think the recruiter definitely means well. They seem really busy there, and he is probably doing the best he can. At this point it would be too late as I accepted another offer today. What a shame! I was pretty stoked to work there; seemed like an awesome fit.
GitHub is very disorganized right now. Sorry you are experiencing this. Hope it goes well.
Can you please elaborate on how they’re disorganized
I too had a 3 month long process of interviewing with GitHub. It's still going on supposedly. Heard that they try and math your current TC as their first offer (and try to close within 10% of the same)..typical microsoft move.
Can you provide the email/method you used to follow up? I applied and would like to follow up but I can’t find a way to contact them.
From application to hire date for me was 5 months.
Yeah they are part of Microsoft family.
I got through a few Microsoft rounds before I interviewed at Github and they were fairly quick on the final response. I mean 4 months cold turkey with me following up every month and receiving very energetic and exciting emails back about how they are excited about me but have some things happening internally.
