Hey Blinders, I have an on-site with Github coming soon. I heard the interview loops are different from other FAANG and FAANG-like companies. - Can anyone from Github give me a pointer on what to prepare? - Do you ask system design questions ala. "Can you design Twitter?" ? - Do you ask LC questions? What difficulty (easy/medium/hard)? I would really appreciate any help. I can't wait to leave Amazon. ---------------------- Edit post interview: I had the onsite the other day. I had 4 sessions, 2 "coding" and 2 soft skill type of thing. 1. The interviewer shared a PR with a commit of what it looks like a Ruby on Rails app, and you were supposed to make comments to it, and reject it or not. 2. Leadership type of questions, "tell me a time you had a disagreement with your coworkers", ... and that type of questions 3. you need to clone a repo, in the repo you get a server app written in go, and you have to write an application to upload an array of objects from a json file to the server making a post request to one of the endpoints. 4. Same as 2. The experience was meh, the recruiter doesn't give a flying f*ck btw, it seems like they are using a 3rd party company to do the "recruiting" for them. For the coding part, I guess it depends on your luck with your interviewer, but it seems like they are looking for Ruby people? The 3rd session was pretty bizarre, the interviewer didn't give a f*ck , didn't talk at all, the go app you need to hit fails on purpose, so you are supposed to catch the errors and retry it. I did catch all the errors and retried etc... I didn't understand the point of tricking candidates with such a dumb test. The last interview was similar to the 2nd. Overall , the interview process is very easy or very hard, depending on the interviewer, the next day, I got a no-reply@greenhouse** rejection email. 😂 TC: 230k, YOE: 6 #interview #github #microsoft #onsite
I had my onsites recently, there is no LC-style questions or system design. I suspect they might ask design questions for your YOE though. It's not trivia questions, they said you can even Google during the interview. I had to review a pull request and work on an exercise involving an external API with an engineer. I found it pretty straightforward and hoping to get an offer.
Did you get it?
How is Slack btw @rlGLHF4k ?
+1 to the above comment, I had 2 behavioral ones and 2 coding: 1 to review a PR, another to write an API client. No leetcode, no system design (2.5 YOE) (also I passed)
Can I DM you ?
Sure thing
How long did it take from when you submitted the technical exercise to when you got a response for the onsite? The original email with the exercise said they'd get back within 5 working days but that doesn't seem to be true.
For me, I had to check in 2 weeks after submitting the excerise
Ah perfect, thank you. From reading other posts I know they're swamped right now, but nice to know a general timeline 😊
I think is like 2-3 days
I wonder if it was the interviewers or if you have an attitude problem… I had literally the same interview and had a great experience and passed easily (2.5 yoe)
A lot of interviewing is luck with what interviewer you get and how they're feeling that day unfortunately.
Yeah it highly depends of the interviewers , in my case I was unlucky , the interview was easy by itself , the recruiters and half of the interviewers were total assholes
Did you list Ruby & Go as the languages you're proficient in? Or did they randomly give you those languages?
Nope , the recruiter didn’t told me the interview was going to be in Ruby either
Is Ruby required for the code review ?
I think so , but depends on the interviewer
Ok what are the other options ? Go ? Can we use Java ?
Interviewed with 8 YOE and also had a system design section on top of what was mentioned above. (Code review was little different for me, maybe just a different Pr)
Wow u had a system design ? That’s interesting they didn’t tell me about any system design
How difficult was the system design round ? What level were u interviewing for ? They said my level will be determined after interview
What type of question do they ask? Trivia questions?
