Anybody knows about these companies? Comp and role are similar. Work is comparable. So this question is mostly about people, environment, culture, opportunities etc. This is for a friend and not me.
Totally depends on the role. Eng wise, comp at Glassdoor is okay but far lower than competitive tech companies like FB, Google, etc. the talent pool is different though which is why there is a huge gap. People I work with complain day and night that comp is not fair but the truth is, comp is very fair for the level of eng talent at the company. Maybe 5% can actually make it past FAANG interview so when they say the comp is too low at GD, does not really make sense.
What? Companies smaller than fang are paying much more than we do. Step out of your cocoon in Mill valley and try interviewing outside. Folks who have left have gotten 40% more pay at companies like Intuit, Walmart, startups too.
Our pay is low. It's compensated by stocks but I doubt we are ready to go public soon... PM me if you want to know numbers. I can share it.
It is not compensated by stock... Glassdoor would have to ipo at 10b valuation for our stock to be worth anything near what companies with liquid stock give to new hires. You could go to a public company and get an offer where the stock alone is worth more than what Glassdoor stock will be worth in our CEOs wildest dreams.
The culture at Chegg is great. Friendly and responsive coworkers, opportunities to learn and grow, a lot of team events. And the stock jumped to all time highs so no complaints there.
GD has a great fun culture and friendly collaborative people. Speaking from the eng org, leaders want you to succeed and grow. Some people have valid concerns with the comp, but otherwise it’s a great place to be.
The SF office is hip and fast paced, MV office is chill and Glassdoor is a nice place to be! If you are joining engineering, work hard and have fun, pay is fine say 5-8K lower than FB, Google, Apple — don’t worry about it.
No don't lie. It's not 5k lower. It's probably 50k lower. And around 15-25k lower that regular companies. The director at Glassdoor makes less than a mid tier company. I have datapoints.
It's been great as long as I've been here. Work is very interesting, learning a lot, got multiple raises and on top of that stock has more than tripled since I joined, and WLB is great
