I forgot my gmail password and has been requesting google for resetting it. My recovery accounts are my personal phone number and my university mail account. Unfortunately my university mail account has been disabled. When i ask gmail to recover my password, it opens up a form and asks me most recent password i remember. I provide it to them and then it sends a code to my recovery phone number. I provide the code on the form again and finally it sends a code to my recovery mail account(which has been disabled by the university). On the same form gmail gives you an option to try another way on which it asks for a security question. I answer it to them and then it asks for an email id where they can get in touch with me within 3-4 business days and sends a code on that email id. After 3-4 business days I get a reply from them that they can’t establish my identity and suggests to create a new account. WTF!! I am pissed off with this. I understand security is important but it shouldn’t stop me from recovering my own account. If your system can’t establish my identity then let some human intervene in this process and helps me in recoverring my account. Any suggestions how can i approach google to ask for my gmail account recovery. #gmailsupport#security#accountrecoverysucks
It's also your fault for continuing to use a disabled email account as recovery address.
Totally Agree with you, it’s my mistake too, but still that’s doesn’t mean that I should repay it by loosing my account. There is a loop hole in Google system. All I am saying is that if your system can’t establish my identity, let a human intervene and resolve the issue.
In my case I never realized that my recovery email in gmail was set as my disabled mail I’d, till the time I had to actually reset my password. I think that can happen with anyone as we humans can’t remember everything, like which information is spread where and if it’s relevant or not.
Yes it sucks. It may be easier to get in touch with your university, explain them the situation and ask if they can reactivate your account temporarily.
I would try to do that but it’s been 2 yrs since I graduated. Not sure if they wld do it. Still thanks for suggestion. No harm in trying it.
