First, I’m grateful for all the generous contributors at Blind, I really learned a lot from you. I’m a G12 senior manager of a SaaS PM team at Cisco. I’ve been approached by AWS, Amazon, FB sourcers but are all for IC PM roles. When I asked to be interviewed for a manager role, I’m not getting great responses so far. I recognize Cisco is no longer considered top tier, and there are compromises… I also know sourcers just ping everyone with a PM title, but where are the sourcers for managers? Is it realistic for me to pursue a manager role with FAANG? Anything I can do to consider me for a manager role? Or should I pursue a VP/ Director roles at a mid-sized company first then later pursue the FAANG manager role? I’ve been approached by a few of those. I’m more interested in the end goal than the immediate rewards. Thank you for reading. TC: 250k YOE: 20 (7 product) #pm #product #productmanager
If you’re L6 in AWS you can become a manager of PMs and I’m sure AWS will give you L6 if not L7. You may not start with managing a team but you can build one. I think it’s the same in Google and Facebook where you can start managing people soon unless you get downleveled so much that it will take forever.
Which location? I thought g12 pay is pretty high
