I am a mechanical engineer working as a structures design engineer for space applications. I have 5 years of post grad experience (2 years co-op experience), including 4 years in the aerospace/defense industry. My experience focuses on design/analysis of space structures and the tooling to make them. I am an advanced user of Creo, SolidWorks, and Inventor and regularly use Creo Simulate for first past FEA analysis (I do work with an analyst for any work that needs more detailed FEA than that). I also do a lot of test set design (specially for optical/TVAC testing) and frequently work with designing liquid nitrogen systems. I do have an active TS clearance but that doesn't matter but given this next part. My issue is for family reasons I am very much tied to my home in Upstate NY. I can only work in jobs that allow me to be fully remote. I also have to use a lot of PTO for family matters (note one instance of this is caring for someone who, solely from a legal standpoint, is not family so I cannot use FMLA) so I am more sensitive to PTO and flexibility benefits than most. My current job isn't bad. Pay is $92k plus whatever OT I work (usually a few grand per year), 401(k) match is 6%, and I have "unlimited" PTO which actually means 4 weeks plus sick time. I'm fortunate to have a job that I can fit around my family needs but there is absolutely no growth opportunity here. Every year is a 2% raise, unless you're a top performer and earn a whopping 3%, and there's no such thing as a bonus. Does anyone have any advice or recommendations in my situation? I love working in aerospace but the industry isn't very friendly to remote work so I could change but it would have to be to something else where the work is dynamic or I'll get bored/burnt out. I'd love to hear about any companies worth checking out or experiences from people who have been in a similar boat. #aerospace #ME #mechanicalengineer #referral #remote #remotecompanies #amazon #meta #google #snapchat #spotify #boeing #lockheed #blueorigin #spacex
I can refer for blue origin if interested. Dm
