What level are you looking at? If you want to dive deep nothing better than Fluent python. It is not for beginners though, learn python the hard way (as suggested above) and hitch hikers guide to python will get you pretty far.
I'd second automate the boring stuff - and caution that its starting to show its age. Learn python the hard way - i wasnt a big fan when it came out and I dont believe its aged well at all. Either way - neither of the books will have any of the newer exciting changes for 3.x but if you're just getting started its irrelevant
If it’s irrelevant, do you have a better alternative to automate the boring stuff?
Its irrelevant if you're just getting started to learn the nuances and new features of any language - you should be learning the basics and enough to become functional and start growing. Automate the boring stuff is my recommendation for that
If you LC, be sure to check out top rated solutions in Python, pretty neat stuff often. Look for 666 and "accept my knees" in the comments lol.
Fluent python
Fluent Python if you are a 6-7/10
What's a good book for learning python as a new language?
To be honest a good bet is finding a python course on Udemy for $10 that you can code along with while you watch it. The courses usually have more content than the books, and they’re cheaper as well.
