Hi blind. What are some good budgeting apps you all use? I’m looking for something lightweight and frictionless, as I have a basic income and fixed costs, but I’m not huge on spending tons of time updating a spreadsheet. I’m moving to the city though, and would like to cut down on unnecessary costs. My main goal is to control unnecessary spending actually, rather than budgeting. I’ve heard of DailyBudget and Mint (I didn’t like Mint). What do you use and like about your app?
I use Citibank and they have an insight function within their website/app. It tells me all the frequent transactions I make and from there I can tell what I spend. I also look at my statement once in a while to get a sense of what I am spending on.
Do you link Citibank with all your other credit card, bank, etc accounts ?
No. Only citi’s. I have saving, checking and a Double Cash credit card with Citi which is my primary card. I have a Amazon Prime credit card issued by Chase for Amazon purchases. So I only need to look at my citibank statement.
Just use Excel.
Monzo
This is for UK 🇬🇧 only right ?
I think so
Self-discipline
Mint is good, you should try again. Clarity Money is also very good, more visual insights, less budgeting than Mint.
Maybe I didn’t put in enough effort, but I found it distracting that it’d factor in my fixed costs like rent into my spending graph. Seeing a huge number that was a fixed cost for me detracted from things that I could change - like eating out, buying things, etc.
OP, you need to set up categories and track spending via the 'budget' tab. There's a ridiculously active subreddit community dedicated to mint too
Personal capital!
+1 for personal capital
Mint, Personal Capital and YNAB each have advantages depending on your budgeting style. Personally I use Mint for categorizing spending and PC for reaching net worth. I also keep a spreadsheet of all assets so I can do some analysis and forecasting
There is one from dave ramsey, i think it called Every dollar
If you can somehow purchase a copy of YNAB 4, then YNAB 4. I think nYNAB is too pricy

Asians - what are your thoughts on asian female white male ?
I don’t use any app. I just spend money wisely. Has worked for me in all stages of life ($20k/year graduate stipend, $200k/year Facebook job)
