Good examples of HR

Asking this out of curiosity , have you ever seen a case where HR really helps the individual employee or a team than always go by the principle of first save the companies ass then the highest ranking manager and then managers under them and then at last the employee. I know higher ups rely on HR for people and organizational issues. But I have no good examples of HR or a way to know if an HR person is good. If you have good instances/examples of HR work then please can you provide that ?

HR doesn’t represent the employee. HR doesn’t work for the employee. HR is not on the employees side. HR is not your friend. Any time HR pretends to be your friend or be on your side, they’re manipulating you.

Patently untrue. Can share years of examples of opposite. Have reported well over 12 cases to my HR, and 9-10 resolved in employees favor. As in they got rid of bad manager or reserved a bad decision. They just don't announce it...doesn't mean it didn't happen.

This is very true in many cases. HR switched sides about 10 years ago, if you have examples of them being for the employee after that, I would be surprised.

How does someone do their work day in and day out manipulating and be hated by everyone? It's also going to be lonely to do this stuff day in and day out I can't see why anyone would want to be HR then ?

The saddest thing is that most HR people are pretty social and go into HR because they like people and want to help people. Read if you actually want to understand the role of HR. Skip if you just want to sit back and throw stones: https://www.linkedin.com/pulse/20140829155916-16202502-the-unpleasant-dark-side-of-hr-that-you-absolutely-must-embrace-if-you-want-to-be-successful

That's what it's like being a LinkedInmate. Wow. Bad company.

I have been involved in several HR cases where I needed to report, get Legal involved or be part of an investigation. 3 times they protected company and reputation of exec (known as douchebags) but 90% of time the individual or team of people who reported found resolution or justice. At least 3 cases where a manager retaliated against me were reversed in my favor. It's not easy, but if you are a good performer, rationale and act in good faith. it definitely goes your way. My experience....maybe not everyone's..

It boils down to the company and the culture. If it’s cut throat at the top, it will be in HR. If they take care of you, they can make all the difference to helping you be successful. They get a bad reputation, but I’ve seen some awesome HR people who care and make a difference for the employee.

I’m in HR and I built a totally new performance management platform for my company that saves everyone (managers and employees) a ton of time during reviews and also quantifies performance and tracks it (graphically) quarterly so that employees have a bargaining tool for promotions and raises when it‘s time for comp planning at year end. HR is absolutely NOT about helping just the company. Ideally people work at the company because they believe in the mission and they are PART of the company. So HR is there to help the parts as well as the whole. It’s not one side vs the other. The company should be on the same side as its employees. If not, then you’re just at a shitty company with a bad culture

Very true. I’m in HR as well and I’ve heard horror stories of previous people in the dept. There are a few bad apples but I wouldn’t generalized the entire field as bad.
