I’ve been working as a TSE for about 3 years. Been training diversely on VMware products rather vigorously for (what personally seems like) a fruitless return. Those I came on with are now at TSE 2 only because they are on bigger teams like Tanzu/Kubers. I’m not really moving up the way I wanted to. Thanks to the take 1 program I get $5000/yr a play with in terms of learning and because of this, I discovered a training course including certification for AWS Solutions Architect - Associate that would teach me the basics/intermediate level of what is means to work as a Solutions Architect. I’m obviously aiming for the $$ increase, although there are a few factors I need to consider, what does workload look like? Who is the best to enter this role and learn on the job? What is the potential to move from a TSE at VMware to a Solutions role? Are most/all salary positions? Has this been done before/is it common? Will a certification help my chances should I make a transition? If I can somehow bump (virtually double) my salary as a TSE, should I pursue that instead?
Not worth it stay at VMWare
Care to elaborate?
No
Certs help if you are a consultant for say Amazon or other consulting companies. (They all do the same thing.) However, interviewers don’t care about certs at non-consulting jobs, they want xp. Adrian Cantrill’s AWS courses are the best though. As potential, have you worked on projects geared to being a Solutions Architect, if none then you will have a hard time landing a job. I would look around and try to find jobs that do offer a solutions architect associate position.
No solutions architect xp, I figured it would be hard to get into in the first place. A learners role is my current hope I’ll look into that course for sure, I appreciate that suggestions!
