Hey guys, I received an offer for a Data Engineer role at a series D startup (170k base + 1.6k options) at 1.5b valuation ($20 fair market evaluation, strike price $10) and waiting on several other on-site results. In the meantime, I scheduled a chat with the hiring manager so I can ask questions about WLB, projects I’d be on, and really see if I would like to work there. What are some good questions to ask? Should I negotiate during this chat asking for more base or a signing bonus? Any advice would be appreciated. What are the exit plans for the startup?
1.6k equity only? Like in valuation?
1.6k options 20 fmv -> 32000. Although he didn't say the strike place so it could be less
He posted in a comment lower. The strike is $10
1.6k???
1.6k stock option’s or are they worth 1.6k atm?
Both are bad but one is worse. $32k vs $1.6k
Isnt one option for 100 shares? Or is this 1600 shares total?
Ask for more equity … they are more likely to go up on that … but keep your negotiations with the recruiter … not the HM.
Look up questions on The Muse. It always has good examples
Ask for 10x the equity and see what they come back with
1) Why should I join your company 2) Share few company policies/exmples where they show they care for employee's WLB 3) process for performance review
#3 is IMPORTANT
What if they said no performance review, the company is small enough that everyone knows what everyone else is doing? Got this kind of answer not long ago from a startup smaller than the OP's.
